Is BGMI Safe for Kids? What Its Built-In Protections Actually Cover

BGMI carries an 18+ age rating in India, not a children's game, and Krafton has built real safety features into it for players under 18. Almost none of that applies, though, if a child is playing on a phone signed into a parent's own adult account instead of their own.

Is BGMI actually age-appropriate for kids?

No. BGMI carries an 18+ age rating under India's age-rating system, and Krafton requires anyone registering an account to complete OTP verification tied to a parent or guardian's phone number if they're under 18. That's a genuinely stricter gate than most mobile games bother with, on paper.

Doesn't Krafton already have built-in protections for players under 18?

It does, and they're worth knowing about even outside the blocking question. Accounts registered as belonging to someone under 18 get a playtime warning after 2 hours and a hard lock after 3 hours of continuous play in a day, with the game staying locked until after midnight. It's a real, functioning limit, built by the developer specifically for younger players.

Why doesn't that help if my child plays on my account instead of their own?

Because none of it is tied to who's physically holding the phone, it's tied to which account is logged in. If a child plays on a phone signed into a parent's own account, an account that was registered as an adult, the 3-hour lock and the under-18 OTP gate simply don't apply, since as far as Krafton's system is concerned, an adult is playing. This is the same pattern that shows up with almost every age-gated app on a shared phone: the check happens once, at account creation, not every time the phone changes hands.

Block it directly instead of relying on an account-based age check.

What about in-game purchases, since it's free to download?

BGMI's purchases are cosmetic only by regulation, skins, outfits, a seasonal Battle Pass, paid for with an in-game currency called UC. Nothing about that requires real money knowledge or strategy to trigger, a few taps inside the app is usually enough if a payment method is already saved to the Play Store account. Checking whether your Play Store account requires a password or biometric confirmation for every purchase, not just the first one, is worth doing regardless of whether you block the app itself.

How do I actually stop the app from opening on my phone?

Block it directly, the same way as any other app. Unlike some real-money apps that get filed under a different Play Store category, BGMI and similar battle royale games are categorized as Games, so a tool that auto-adds new game installs, CrenelView included, picks it up on its own without you having to add it by name. If it's already installed, ticking it in your block list closes it the moment it's tapped, same as any other blocked app.

The age gate and the 3-hour limit are real, they just only work on an account actually registered to your child, not on yours.

Add BGMI or any installed game to your block list in under a minute.
